Balearic farmers have received €36.5 million in aid in 2024.
The figure is 900,000 euros higher than in 2023 and they have already been paid more than 95% of the total.
Farmers in the Balearic Islands have received 36.5 million euros in direct aid from the Common Agricultural Policy (PAC) during 2024, 900,000 euros more than in 2023. Of this figure, more than 95% have already been paid, with a payment rate that is 14% faster than the previous year.
The Regional Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and the Environment, Joan Simonet, noted that the increase in funding has been "even more significant compared to 2022 (€28 million), when the island factor had not yet been recognized." Similarly, he considered that this subsidy campaign has reflected "the fulfillment of the commitment to increase aid by almost €1 million compared to the first year of the new CAP period."
Simonet highlighted the acceleration of payments, which began in October 2024 and were completed in June of this year. Therefore, he indicated that the Administration paid "more and, above all, more quickly" and assured that they will continue "working with rigor and commitment to ensure that the money reaches the pockets of farmers and ranchers as quickly as possible."
Distribution of aid by lines and by islands
The Director General of Agriculture, Livestock, and Rural Development, Fernando Fernández, explained that income support—which includes basic support, complementary redistributive support, and complementary support for young people—has totaled nearly €23 million.
Fernández emphasized that "the area declared for 2024 remains stable compared to 2023, at nearly 109,000 hectares," which, he said, demonstrates that environmental measures "are being implemented and consolidated."
Regarding eco-regimes, the Director General explained the following amounts: €2.55 million allocated to crop rotation with improving species; €1.8 million for spontaneous or sown vegetation cover; €1.78 million for extensive grazing; and nearly €330,000 for biodiversity areas, among others.
Regarding associated aid, the Director General of Agriculture highlighted the following amounts: €3.5 million for extensive sheep and goat meat farming; €1.6 million for cow's milk production; nearly €700,000 for sheep and goat farming without pasture; €391,000 for extensive beef cattle; more than €315,000 for nuts; and almost €200,000 for the Protein Plan, among others.
By island, the payments were distributed: €28.46 million to Mallorca, with more than 4,000 beneficiaries; €7.16 million to Menorca, distributed among approximately 400 people; €804,500 to Ibiza, with almost 300 farmers; and €88,200 to Formentera, with 36 beneficiaries.
