Investigated for animal mistreatment a person after finding two neglected dogs, one with the collar embedded

PalmaThe Civil Guard has investigated a person as the alleged author of an animal mistreatment crime against two Akita Inu dogs in Santa Eugènia. The animals were in poor welfare conditions and one of them had a serious wound around its neck.
The facts became known following a complaint filed with the Local Police of Santa Eugènia. Based on this information, agents from the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of Sant Joan initiated the corresponding actions to check the condition of the animals.
During the inspection, the agents detected that one of the dogs had a deep wound between two and three centimeters around its neck. According to initial checks, the injury could have been caused by the animal's own collar, which would not have been adjusted to its size as the animal grew. This would have caused the collar to become embedded in the dog's skin and cause a considerable wound.
Given the condition of the two animals, the agents proceeded to remove them to ensure their protection and that they could receive veterinary assistance. The operation was carried out with the coordination of the Civil Guard, the Local Police and the Santa Eugènia Town Hall, with the collaboration of the Natura Parc Foundation, which provided the necessary means for the care and transfer of the dogs. After receiving first aid, the two Akita Inus were transferred to the facilities of the Natura Parc Foundation, where they are under veterinary care and receiving the necessary treatment to recover from their injuries. The Civil Guard has drawn up the corresponding proceedings, which have been made available to the competent judicial authority.

The Civil Guard reminds that the responsible ownership of pets implies guaranteeing adequate conditions of health, hygiene, feeding, housing and welfare, in addition to adequately supervising their physical condition.
In this regard, the agents warn that restraint elements, such as collars, must be adapted to the characteristics and needs of each animal. The lack of necessary care, the use of inadequate elements and the lack of supervision can cause injuries and suffering and, depending on the circumstances, may constitute administrative infractions or a presumed crime of animal abuse.
