Lucía Muñoz, censured by the Palma plenary session for wishing for the disappearance of Israel: "History will absolve me"

The councilwoman argues that the censure is a response to her opposition to the "genocide" that Israel is perpetrating in Gaza.

PalmThe Palma City Council, with votes in favor from the People's Party (PP) and Vox, censured councilwoman Lucía Muñoz of the Unidas Podemos party for expressing her desire for the disappearance of the State of Israel and a Palestine "free from the river to the sea." The motion, promoted by Santiago Abascal's party, had already received approval during last week's Citizen Services Committee meeting and was ratified this Thursday in the plenary session. During her speech, Muñoz stated that although the City Council censured her, history would absolve her; unlike the PP and Vox council members, she countered, who would be remembered as "miserable accomplices in the genocide of the Palestinian people." Muñoz said the censure stemmed from her opposition to the "genocide" that Israel is perpetrating in Gaza, "where they murder children, bomb schools and hospitals, and annihilate entire populations," she pointed out. In his view, any state "sustained by war crimes, colonization, and plunder based on a genocidal project" should end like Nazi Germany: "With the dismantling of its structures, those responsible imprisoned, and a process of denazification," he stated.

"The genocidal state of Israel must disappear"

"So yes, I say it again with pride and aware that my words represent the feelings of the people of Palma: the genocidal state of Israel must disappear. Long live a free Palestine, with the river in the sea," he said.

"For me, it is an honor; there is nothing more dignified than to be condemned by genocidal maniacs and their accomplices. To deserve the hatred of those who poison the people will be our greatest honor," he declared. The spokespeople for MÉS in Palma, Neus Truyol, and for the PSOE, Xisco Ducrós, also disagreed with the proposal, criticizing Vox for presenting an initiative "full of hypocrisy" and "shameful."

"It is not a religious issue, but a matter of human rights."

The eco-sovereignist argued that Muñoz's words were not directed at Jewish people, but at the state of Israel. "It's not a religious issue, but one of human rights and international law, but the PP and Vox want to sow confusion to justify the genocide of the Palestinian people," he maintained. The Socialist, for his part, considered that the one who should be censured is the Vox municipal leader, Fulgencio Coll, whom he accused of working against the interests of the citizens of Palma and, in his articles published in the press, "inciting a coup d'état." Coll, in his speech, expressed a "unequivocal condemnation" of Muñoz's words, which he compared to statements "typical of the amalgam of terrorist groups." He also argued that the desire for the disappearance of Israel is not worthy of a political representative of a city council "committed to peace and the law," provokes "targeting," and encourages anti-Semitism.

Despite voting in favor of censuring the Podemos councilwoman, no representative from the PP intervened in the debate.
