PalmThe civic platform Mallorca per la Pau has expressed this Thursday its rejection of the presence of up to eleven NATO and Spanish Navy vessels that are participating these days in submarine warfare military exercises in waters near Mallorca.

According to the entity's denunciation, the deployment also includes air assets and unmanned systems in a large-scale operation in the Mediterranean in which countries such as Spain, Greece, Italy, Turkey, and the United States are participating.

The platform considers that this type of military exercises occur in an international context of growing tension and armed conflicts, and warns that this situation reinforces the need to bet on demilitarization policies in the region.

In this regard, Mallorca per la Pau defends the preservation of the Mediterranean as a space of peace, cooperation, and protection of life, and calls for a “sea free of military training, war exercises, and nuclear presence”. The entity insists that the presence of this type of maneuvers in the vicinity of the island contributes to the militarization of the Mediterranean and contradicts, according to them, efforts to move towards a scenario of greater international stability and dialogue.
