The young acrobat had worked in numerous circuses in different countries such as Germany, Spain, Andorra, and Poland. She built her career as a gymnast and in 2018 entered the circus world. A great fan of performing arts, she possessed multiple artistic abilities, especially in the air. On her website, Marina Barceló stated that "every day" she strived to perfect her technique and "explore new ways to surprise and excite the audience." Her work ranged from aerial acrobatics and tightrope walking "to stilt walking and shows on a wheel." She enjoyed embodying characters such as a mermaid in a real aquarium. "For me, every show is an opportunity to share not only my technique, but also my passion for what I do," she said.

Research to determine its causes

For the moment, the German police are classifying the accident as an industrial accident. There is no indication of any external fault, as the acrobats themselves are usually responsible for setting up their equipment. However, the mayor of Bautzen, Karsten Vogt, stated that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.

For its part, the German Association of Circus Companies (VDCU) described this Monday as "tragic" and "cruel" for the victim's family.

Ralf Huppertz, president of the German Association of Circus Companies, described the accident as a "tragic" event that should serve as a reminder for all directors of these shows to work with and discuss safety measures with the artists.

In a statement, the mayor also expressed his condolences to Marina's family and relatives. "On behalf of the city, I want to express my sincere condolences to the family and relatives. Our thoughts are with the families and everyone affected by this serious incident," said Vogt, who indicated that an investigation is underway.
