Mallorcan commerce will celebrate Tourist Smile Day on February 27.

Afedeco joins the Hotel Business Federation's 'Thanks for visiting Mallorca' campaign.

PalmThe Afedeco trade association will celebrate Tourist Smile Day on February 27, 2026, when it will distribute bags with the slogan Thanks for visiting Mallorca to visitors who shop at local businesses, the organization explained in a statement on Monday. Afedeco is thus joining the initiative of the Mallorcan Hotel Business Federation (FEHM) to thank tourists for their presence on the island and combat the messages conveyed by citizen protests against the touristification of residents' living spaces. "This isn't just any bag; it's a small gesture that encourages people to fill it with purchases, local products, and beautiful souvenirs to take back home," the organization states.

The objective of Afedeco's campaign is for "every tourist who comes to Mallorca to know that they are welcome here, that their presence is important, and that local businesses value them," the statement continues, emphasizing that the bag, which will be distributed within six months, is "a symbol of hospitality." The employers' association states that it wants tourists to "stroll through our streets, discover our shops, talk to the people, and take a piece of our land with them in their hearts and hands," says its president, Joana Manresa.

The initiative "will be carried out simultaneously in several emblematic locations on the island," and then the merchants will present the bag "as a token of gratitude to those who have chosen Mallorca to enjoy their vacation." Afedeco also wants to send "a message to Mallorcan society about the importance of maintaining a balanced tourism model in tune with the current needs of our land." "Afedeco wants this action to be a public declaration that coexistence and mutual respect are the basis of sustainable and prosperous tourism."

According to the employers' association, "every visitor who passes through our ports and airports brings with them stories, cultures, and smiles that enrich our society." "At a time when the discourse on tourism sometimes becomes strained, we want to remember that visitors are part of our history and our future," adds Manresa, who asks businesses and citizens to join the event.
