Man run over while lying on the road in Menorca
The victim, still unidentified, has been run over by a taxi at the entrances to Menorca airport
PalmA man died early this Tuesday after being run over by a taxi while lying on the road at the access to Menorca Airport, in Maó. The circumstances under which the victim ended up on the road are still unknown and are under investigation.
According to information from the National Police, the events took place around 5:30 AM. The taxi was heading to the airport's arrivals terminal when the driver hit the body, which was lying on the road, without noticing its presence.
The victim was not carrying any identification and, for this reason, has not yet been identified. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Tuesday, while the National Police continue their efforts to determine his identity.
The investigation has been divided into two lines. The Local Police are responsible for clarifying the circumstances of the traffic accident, taking statements and conducting the corresponding technical inspections. In parallel, the National Police are investigating whether any criminal act occurred before the accident that could explain why the man was lying on the road.
The accident forced traffic to be restricted in the area for nearly two hours. The body was removed around 7:30 AM, and traffic was subsequently able to be restored.
