The Council of Mallorca has modified the project of the first section of the second Palma beltway with the aim of "facilitating the construction" of the future train that will run from Palma to Llucmajor, according to the Director General of Infrastructure and Technical Vehicle Inspection, Rafel Gelabert. The island institution will build a 15-meter-wide underpass beneath the underground tunnel that will provide access to Son Ferriol from the motorway to the airport.

This section is a project that will connect the airport motorway with the second ring road that begins in Son Ferriol. The main objective of this infrastructure is to relieve congestion on the ring road. As Gelabert pointed out, it is the "most important project of this term, will cost around €110 million, and is part of the Palma Access Improvement Plan." The project includes underground sections to avoid impacting the landscape, specifically an 845-meter tunnel that runs from Coll d'en Rebassa to the Fons path. The underground section will have two lanes in each direction and separate carriageways. It also includes a network of pedestrian and bicycle lanes, connecting the areas of Coll d'en Rabassa, Son Ferriol, Marratxí, and Palma.

The island institution will also locate the future train station and a park-and-ride parking lot in Coll d'en Rebassa, specifically on the land between Darwin Street and the airport highway. The initial proposal called for building this infrastructure in front of Mercapalma and the FAN Mallorca Shopping center.

Furthermore, the Coll d'en Rabassa overpass is also being redesigned to move the current connection to the airport highway away from populated areas. This will avoid inconvenience to residents, as the road currently passes almost over the rooftops of their homes. It should be noted that the creation of this infrastructure had been halted in recent legislative terms.
