One in three women engaged in prostitution in Palma is a victim of trafficking or exploitation.
A report from Palma City Council determines the increase in women in this situation.


The report Identification of cases of trafficking for sexual exploitation The 2024 report prepared by the Palma City Council's Technical Equality Unit determines that one in three women engaged in prostitution in Palma is a victim of human trafficking or exploitation. Furthermore, it estimates that there are at least 447 victims of sexual exploitation in Palma.
Lourdes de la Cruz, a sociologist with the Palma City Council's Equality Unit, lamented the increase in this problem in Palma. In 2023, the annual report prepared by Cort (Cultural Court) estimated the number of victims of this problem at 361, 40 more than in 2022. The majority of victims continue to be young, foreign women in an irregular administrative situation. 74% of women have family responsibilities, and 59% have two or more dependents. In terms of age, 40% are between 25 and 34 years old, while 32% are between 35 and 44. The report also shows that sexual exploitation is mainly concentrated in environments that De la Cruz has described as "delocalized" (6): streets (12%), clubs (8%) and webcam (2%). According to the report, these spaces "are more difficult to detect, which increases the need to strengthen identification mechanisms." Regarding age, the largest groups are those aged 25 to 34 (40%) and 35 to 44 (32%), with an average age of 34.7 years.
Regarding the services received, 92% of victims have accessed social resources, such as financial aid and housing; 47% have received healthcare, and 43% have received job training and guidance. Additionally, 25% have received legal support, and 23% have received psychological counseling.
