Palma hosts a clothing exchange and repair day for World Sustainable Fashion Day
The day includes a clothing exchange and a repair workshop to promote the circular economy and extend the lifespan of garments
PalmaThe Lul·lià General Study will host this Saturday, April 25, a clothing exchange and repair event to mark World Sustainable Fashion Day. The activities, organized by Amics de la Terra within the framework of the Climate Academy, are free and will take place from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
The objective of the initiative is to promote reuse, reduce waste, and encourage more responsible consumption habits. The event is part of the Allargascència campaign, which advocates for the right to repair and aims to extend the useful life of products in the face of planned obsolescence and consumerism.
Clothing exchange with sustainable criteria
During the morning, participants can bring up to ten items of clothing in good condition, as well as accessories or small objects, to exchange them for other items. The organization will previously review the products and, for each accepted item, a coupon will be given to choose another one within the designated area.
This proposal is based on the principles of the circular economy and aims to reduce the environmental impact of textile consumption, while offering an alternative for sustainably renewing one's wardrobe.
Workshop to repair and extend the life of garments
In parallel, a clothing repair workshop with prior registration will be organized, where participants can learn basic techniques for restoring garments with the advice of experts from the Es Calaix collective. The activity aims to strengthen the culture of reuse and clothing maintenance.
A date with a reivindicative background
The World Sustainable Fashion Day coincides with the anniversary of the collapse of Rana Plaza, in Bangladesh, on April 24, 2013, considered the worst disaster in the modern textile industry, with more than 1,100 deaths and thousands of injuries.
From this tragedy was born the Fashion Revolution Week movement, which calls for greater transparency, sustainability, and decent working conditions in the fashion production chain.
With this day, the Climate Academy invites citizens to get involved in the change towards a more conscious and environmentally friendly consumption model.
