Palma lights up the magic of Christmas with a light show
Plaza de Espanya hosts the Christmas lights switch-on for the first time with 25,000 attendees and the show 'The Dance of the Two Stars'
PalmThis Saturday, Palma officially welcomed the Christmas season with the switching on of the lights, which, for the first time, was moved to Plaça d'Espanya, transforming it into the epicenter of joy and excitement. According to the Local Police, some 25,000 people took to the streets to witness the event, approximately 15,000 of whom gathered in Plaça d'Espanya.
The event began at 7:00 p.m. with a visual and musical show by Grup Trui, entitled The dance of the two starsFor about 35 minutes, the audience witnessed a magical narrative starring the stars Lira and Vega, who, after millennia, reunite to dance a waltz guided by the light of a symbolic diamond, representing collective wishes. The final dance became a shower of hope that illuminated the plaza and filled the air with Christmas magic.
The staging was spectacular. A large central platform and an LED screen projected images and a countdown, while snow and smoke effects added a touch of fantasy. Two acrobats, an internally illuminated diamond, and the Galactic Candelabra, a floating installation that descended from the sky to host the final dance, were all part of the performance. In total, 13 artists participated, accompanied by a technical team that made the show possible.
As the countdown began, all the city's Christmas lights switched on simultaneously, synchronized with the musical climax and a final burst of luminous confetti, leaving onlookers speechless and with sparkling eyes.
This year, Palma boasts 3,350 light modules, 80 more than last year, and 614,396 meters of garland, 72,959 more than in 2024. Some areas are illuminated for the first time, such as Gaspar Bennàssar Avenue and Gaspar Bennàssar Street. Others, like Comte Sallent Avenue, Son Sardina, Cas Capiscol, Pere Garau, and General Riera, are debuting new light formats and types.
Likewise, the traditional elements that captivate the public year after year are maintained: the tent in Sant Cosme square, the 20-meter tree in the park of Les Estacions, the 10-meter trees in Antoni Maura and Raimundo Clar square and the gigantic balloon that is a must along the Sagrera promenade, which continue to be points of interest in the Sagrera promenade.
The streets of Palma vibrated with the magic of light, music, and collective emotion. Adults and children alike captured every moment on their phones, while the youngest children ran around, fascinated, amidst the beams of light, the confetti effects, and the music that filled the square. It was an early Christmas, full of smiles, magic, and hope, which this year, more than ever, bathed Palma in light.
