PalmaThe Plaça Major in Palma was the scene this Saturday at noon of a brawl between a group of anti-fascists and members of the far-right organization Núcleo Nacional, which ended with the intervention of the National Police using batons. The riot police intervened to separate the two groups after the anti-fascists broke through the police cordon to rescue a companion who was being beaten by members of the far-right group in front of the passivity of the National Police officers.
The whole controversy began following the installation of an information table by Núcleo Nacional in this central point of Palma, where the group intended to disseminate its messages. The stall was set up in the morning, surrounded by a large police presence that cordoned off a large part of the square, where numerous tourists were passing by.
The Anti-fascist Coordinator of Mallorca had activated an "anti-fascist alert" to prevent the far-right organization from spreading "hate messages". Núcleo Nacional had hidden until the last minute where they would meet, but once they made it public, the anti-fascists called for an emergency rally at 12 pm to express their rejection of the group's presence in the city.
About thirty people gathered in front of the stall. At that moment, one of the anti-fascists attending the rally entered from the back and came face to face with the members of Núcleo Nacional, who restrained him between several people and began to assault him as a group. Faced with this situation, and the passivity of the National Police officers, the victim's companions decided to act and broke the police cordon, and it is at this moment that the brawl began, with the throwing of objects, which forced the officers to use their batons to separate the two sides.
After dispersing the groups, the National Police reinforced the security cordon to prevent the protesters from overcoming it again and to stop the confrontation from resuming.
The Police force the removal of the stall
Once the situation was under control, the officers demanded that the members of Núcleo Nacional remove their information table. Meanwhile, the anti-fascist protesters continued to express their rejection of the organization with slogans such as "Mallorca will be the tomb of fascism", "fascists out of our neighborhoods" and "here are the anti-fascists".
Finally, the members of Núcleo Nacional left the square amidst shouts from the gathered crowd. During their retreat, some members of the group performed the fascist salute.
This Saturday's clash highlights the tension surrounding the attempts by Núcleo Nacional to establish itself in Mallorca. The group's presence in Palma had already sparked protests and criticism from anti-fascist collectives, especially following the call they made last May to defend the Feixina monument.
La Feixina and the graffiti, precedents of the controversy
In May 2026, Núcleo Nacional called for a rally at la Feixina to oppose the possible demolition of the monument dedicated to the dead of the cruiser Baleares. The call reopened the debate on democratic memory and Francoist symbology in Palma.
The ultra-right protest, held on May 24, brought together about fifteen people, while more than a hundred anti-fascists gathered in front of the Consolat de Mar to counter-program it and denounce hate speech.
In previous months, there had also been reports of graffiti with Nazi symbols at the Fonts Ufanes and on the bust of Aurora Picornell, in El Molinar. These actions have been attributed to the group or linked to its activity in reports and public complaints, without this implying that their authorship has been legally proven.
The new controversy comes after the Anti-fascist Coordinator of Mallorca announced that it was preparing a response to the presence of Núcleo Nacional on the streets of Palma. This Saturday, the call resulted in a rally, a brawl, and police interventions in the city center.
