The PP and Vox approve the budgets of the Consell de Mallorca without money for the transfer of waste from Ibiza
The island institution does not include in its 2026 accounts the 50 million euros that the Government must provide to compensate for the additional costs of manure imports.
PalmThe Consell de Mallorca has approved the 2026 budget with the support of the PP and Vox parties and the opposition of MÁS per Mallorca, El Pi, and the PSIB. The budget approved this Tuesday does not include the 50 million euros (5 million euros spread over 10 years) that the Balearic Government must provide to the Consell de Mallorca to compensate for the additional costs of transferring waste from Ibiza. Upon initial approval of the budgetsSources from the island institution explained to ARA Baleares that this figure had not been included in the accounts because the import of manure "did not have legal cover" to be carried out. Since the beginning of December, the import of waste from Ibiza has enjoyed legal cover, since The Executive approved the decree that allows it.But this has not led the island council to include that item in the final approved budget. However, the council president celebrated that the budget "was approved on time and in the proper manner," which, in his opinion, is proof of a "stable and efficient" government. Along the same lines, he celebrated that it is "the highest in the history of the island council" and emphasized that six out of every ten euros are allocated to social policies. The council's accounts total 761.7 million euros, 66.2 million euros more than in 2015. The councilor for Finance, Innovation, and Public Service, Rafel Bosch, highlighted the 132.7 million euros earmarked for achieving safer and more sustainable mobility, the 70 million euros allocated to other projects, and other items.
For her part, the spokesperson for MÉS per Mallorca, Catalina Inès Perelló, admitted that these are the highest budgets in the history of the Consell, but pointed out that "they are every year because economic resources increase, but they are not good for Mallorca." The opposition, which filed complaints against the budgets that have been dismissed, criticized the governing team for eliminating earmarked subsidies toBalearic Cultural Work (OCB) and in Jóvenes por la Lengua (Youth for Language) and also in the booksellers' guild to organize Catalan Book Week. Furthermore, they considered that the budget does not propose new solutions to the problems of housing and overtourism and that it increases the power of the far right. In fact, the Vox spokesperson in the island institution, Toni Gili, has positively assessed the budgets and has stated that "Vox is advancing and influencing the PP's policies." In this regard, he emphasized that the far right has managed to "say enough to illegal immigration" and has also removed the term 'gender violence' from the budget because, in Gili's opinion, "violence has no gender."
Because of these impositions by Vox, Cladera has accused the president of the Consell of having given in to the far right and of crossing "red lines" such as language, equality, and the fight against climate change, among others. In this regard, he warned that Galmés "will go down as the most xenophobic president Mallorca has ever had."
Goodbye to the tourism advisor
During the plenary session, the Socialist spokesperson stated amidst the budget debate that the session was convened "to bid farewell" to the Minister of Tourism, Marcial Rodríguez, who will be replaced by Guillem Ginard, as reported by ARA Baleares. The change comes after a turbulent period in the department, marked by repeated problems in the management of the tourist accommodation system, which has failed in recent attempts at allocation and distribution, creating a perception of the department's incompetence and significant frustration within Llorenç Gals's governing team. Cladera expressed her hope that the change "will improve the direction of the governing team beyond simply taking photos and going on trips." Meanwhile, the spokesperson for El Pi opined that Rodríguez's term "has been turbulent and full of conflicts with staff," and therefore "has yielded absolutely no results." Similarly, Perelló considered that "no concrete progress has been made" due to Rodríguez's "mismanagement." For her part, the PP spokesperson, Núria Riera, simply stated that "government reshuffles are not announced, they are carried out."
