PalmThe three shipping companies The companies that handle freight, passenger, and vehicle traffic in the Balearic Islands (Trasmed, Baleària, and GNV) believe that vehicle restrictions in Mallorca should be implemented "based on rigor, data, and dialogue," according to Baleària's president, Alfonso Utor, who spoke on Thursday after meeting with the Consell de Mallorca (Mallorca Council). He added that the three companies are fully and completely willing to collaborate with the island institution to "find solutions to the island's traffic congestion problems." "We are ready to collaborate with public officials in any way they request," he emphasized.

Officially, the shipping companies support the vehicle restriction, but it's clear to everyone that their business is transportation, including cars, and therefore, carrying fewer vehicles is not in their interest because it would mean a loss of money. In fact, Baleària filed an administrative appeal against the daily car restriction in Ibiza, which is already in effect. Faced with the possibility that the companies might lose money due to the vehicle restriction, the island councilor for Territory, Mobility, and Infrastructure, Fernando Rubio, simply stated that "shipping companies are businesses" and that "the island institution will not go against anyone, least of all a sector that is strategic for Mallorca's connectivity." "They are essentially providing a public service, and their opinion is fundamental," he emphasized. The three companies expressed relative satisfaction after the meeting because, as Utor explained, "an intense line of dialogue has been opened" between the island institution and the three companies, through which they will provide relevant information for implementing the measure. A working group will also be created to exchange data and knowledge with the aim of strengthening institutional collaboration. He emphasized that the companies will demonstrate "total loyalty" in collaborating with the Consell (Island Council) so that it can make "the best decisions in defense of a sustainable tourism model." For his part, Rubio declined to specify whether the law would be implemented before the end of 2026, explaining that "many stakeholders are involved, and a regulatory text is needed that allows the sector to work hand in hand with public institutions so that they can be part of the solution."
