Fire extinguished at Mercapalma

PalmaPalma Firefighters have attended on several occasions this Tuesday to cool the area where a truck fire occurred on Monday and, at the moment, it has been declared extinguished, as confirmed by the Firefighters.
The fire that affected the Mercapalma premises, where it caused significant material damage, was declared under control this Monday at 6 p.m. Before that, it raised a large column of smoke that generated considerable agitation, although there were no injuries or airport disruptions.
The emergency services of the Majorcan capital received a notice at approximately 3:30 p.m. for a fire in Mercapalma and the fire was declared under control around 6 p.m., at which point the Mallorca Firefighters, who collaborated in the operation, departed. At the site, emergency personnel remained to continue with the extinguishing tasks.
In addition to the Palma Firefighters, personnel from the Calvià, Inca, Llucmajor fire stations and the Milana helicopter also deployed to the scene, along with the National Police and Local Police. Resources from Aena and Ibanat also joined them.
The situation forced the old Llucmajor road to Son Banya to be closed to traffic, where residents were advised to preemptively evacuate the area until the extinction tasks were completed.
The Council pointed out that the incident occurred in one of the parked trucks.
Aena sources reported that the airport activated the Self-Protection Plan and also collaborated in extinguishing the fire with several detachments of the fire extinction service. Despite the proximity of the fire to the exterior of the facility, operations were not affected by the fire or smoke.
Sources close to the case detailed to Efe that Son Banya had been confined, although the councilor for Citizen Security, Llorenç Bauzá, assured that the inhabitants were recommended a preventive evacuation and action was taken in the village, as the flames had spread to its entrance.
For its part, SAMU 061 detailed that, although multiple vehicles were dispatched to the area to attend to possible injuries, they only had to attend to one person who had suffered an anxiety attack.
