PalmaFirefighters are working to extinguish a fire that has affected the Mercapalma premises, where it has caused significant material damage, and which has raised a large column of smoke and has forced the preventive confinement of the residents of Son Banya village, although there are no reported injuries or airport disruptions.
According to Efe, sources from Cort have reported that the emergency services of the Majorcan capital received a notice at approximately 3:30 p.m. about a fire in the premises.

The City Council has indicated that the incident, which occurred in the warehouses of the complex, would have originated in one of the trucks present. Although there are no personal injuries, there are numerous material damages.
The facility, which is near Palma airport, has caused a dense column of smoke, although its operation has not been affected so far, Aena sources have confirmed.
For their part, sources close to the operation have detailed that the flames have reached six trucks and two trailers and have spread to an area with abandoned cars and rubbish, which has forced the preventive confinement of the residents of Son Banya. The Councilor for Citizen Security, Llorenç Bauzà, has pointed out that the firefighters are still in the area carrying out cooling tasks and has confirmed, according to contacts with Aena, that no flights have been affected.
