PalmaState officials assigned to the Balearic Islands will receive up to 700 euros more per month as a residence allowance starting this month. The Spanish government has approved the compensation agreement for insularity, proposed by the UGT, which updates amounts that have not been revised for 20 years. The increase compensates for the high cost of living and will be particularly significant in Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, while in Mallorca the amounts will be aligned with those already received by public employees assigned to the Canary Islands. The new monthly compensation ranges between 214.61 euros for staff in group A1 assigned to Mallorca and 697.67 euros for the same workers if they are based in Menorca, Ibiza, or Formentera. In the case of administrative staff in group C1, the supplement will be 144.61 euros per month in Mallorca and 405.10 euros in the rest of the Archipelago.

According to data provided by the UGT, the increase represents monthly raises of between 50 and 100 euros in Mallorca and between 195 and 570 euros in the smaller islands, depending on the professional group. The compensation will benefit 11,000 workers assigned to the Islands, 4,000 more than the current ones. The increase will be applied progressively over three years, until 2028. Historic milestone

The general secretary of UGT Public Services in the Balearic Islands, Miguel Ángel Romero, considers the agreement "a historic milestone" and has announced that they will continue negotiating to equalize increases for all groups of civil servants. He considers it unfair that they receive different amounts when the cost of life is the same for everyone. To demonstrate this, he requests a rigorous study quantifying the economic situation with objective criteria and incorporating factors such as the price of housing, purchases, and fuel. The union argues that the current amounts had become outdated and made it difficult to fill positions in the General State Administration in the Balearic Islands, as many civil servants renounced the destination or requested a transfer shortly after. The agreement develops the commitments included in the Framework Agreement for the improvement of public employment, signed in November 2025, and in Royal Decree-Law 19/2026, which provided for the negotiation of a review of residence supplements within a maximum period of six months.

In addition to setting the new amounts, the document establishes that the Administration and the unions will continue negotiating in the coming months a new review of service-related compensation and the necessary regulatory modifications for the Balearic regime to achieve full parity with that of the Canary Islands, including seniority-linked supplements.
