PalmPalma City Council announced on Thursday the relocation of the bike lane currently running along Blanquerna Street to 31 de Diciembre Street, in the section that runs along the Valldemossa road towards the avenues. This measure will entail the elimination of nearly twenty parking spaces to accommodate the new bike lane route.

The budget allocated to this change is €300,000 and aims to reduce conflicts between pedestrians, bicycles, and scooters in Blanquerna. This action It was initially announced in May of this year. and is part of the new Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) due to the continuity and convenience problems it generated.

The announcement was made this Thursday by the Councilor for Infrastructure, Belén Soto, in a session characterized by its heated exchanges. The accusations traded between Soto and Angélica Pastor, her counterpart in the previous legislature, escalated as the session progressed. At one point, the Socialist councilor criticized Soto for wanting a civil servant to explain part of the budget. "Don't expose civil servants; this is a political appearance," she retorted. In response, the Popular Party councilor criticized Pastor's budget management during the previous legislature: "She extended the budget allocated to tree planting investment six times; that is to say, there were zero euros for new trees."
