The doctors' strike maintains 70% follow-up in outpatient clinics and 40% in Primary Care
Anesthesiologists continue to lead the strike, while the union foresees a similar impact to that of the first day of protest
PalmaThe fifth week of the doctors' strike against the Framework Statute promoted by the Ministry of Health continues with high participation in the Balearic Islands. According to the provisional assessment by the Balearic Medical Union (Simebal), this Tuesday the strike was supported by 70% of the external hospital consultation physicians and 40% of primary care professionals.
The figures are similar to those recorded this Monday and also to those of other strike days called this year. The Anesthesiology collective is again the one with the highest participation, with percentages ranging between 90% and 95%. Medical Intern Residents (MIR) also participate significantly, with an adherence of between 65% and 70%, despite being one of the groups with the lowest salaries within the healthcare system.
Care impact
The president of Simebal, Miguel Lázaro, has pointed out that the impact of the day could be similar to that of the first strike call, when, according to IB-Salut data, 43 surgical interventions and more than 3,000 consultations and diagnostic tests were suspended. However, the definitive balance of this Tuesday is still pending confirmation.
In parallel to the strike, the union has organized gatherings in front of various public health centers in Mallorca, Menorca, and Ibiza to visualize the professionals' rejection of the text proposed by the Ministry of Health.
The mobilizations will continue on Thursday. In Mallorca, the gatherings will be repeated at 8:30 a.m. in front of public hospitals. In Ibiza, the protest will move to Vara de Rey promenade at 6:30 p.m., while in Menorca the call will take place within the scope of Primary Care.
