PalmaThe Department of Health estimates that the new week of medical strike will cause the suspension of some 15,000 healthcare services in the Balearic Islands, with an economic impact that could reach 2.5 million euros. This was explained this Monday by the Minister of Health, Manuela García, who expressed her concern about the consequences of the conflict for both professionals and patients.

According to García, the mobilizations against the new framework statute promoted by the Ministry of Health have been ongoing for almost a year without, in her opinion, significant progress being made in negotiations. The minister criticized the lack of response from the Spanish government and warned that the situation is causing concern among the autonomous communities.

The head of Health recalled that previous strike days have already led to the cancellation of nearly 77,000 medical procedures and an estimated expenditure of ten million euros. In this context, she argued that the autonomous communities have little room for maneuver to resolve the conflict.

Controversy over psychologists

Otherwise, García also referred to the controversy over the incorporation of health psychologists in health centers. As he explained, these professionals will attend to cases related to emotional distress and everyday life situations that affect people's well-being, but not serious mental disorders, which will continue to be the responsibility of clinical psychologists.

The minister defended the coexistence of both profiles within the health system and assured that this new provision has been well received by both professionals and users of primary care.
