PalmThe Eivissa City Council has proposed to evict the Joveria settlement on April 21st at 10:00 AM, where approximately 130 people currently reside, after a court in Palma authorized entry, dismantling, and cleaning of the plot.

According to the council, last November the landowners were already required to fulfill their duty of conservation, by removing waste and carrying out other necessary actions. Given their inability to do so, the City Council initiated legal proceedings that culminated this March with authorization to act on the plot, which will subsequently be fenced off to prevent further occupation.

Shacks, sheds, and tents have been erected in the area. The latest counts by the Local Police and municipal social services place the number of residents at around 130.

The council argues that the inhabitants live in precarious conditions, without basic services such as drinking water, sewage, or waste management, and warns of health and safety risks, such as the presence of pests or the danger of fire due to the use of items like stoves, heaters, or gas canisters.

Various technical reports, including those from environmental agencies, the Local Police, service companies, and Can Misses Hospital, also warn of health and environmental risks, such as potential soil and groundwater contamination, as well as increased pressure on the services of the hospital, located near the settlement.

The City Council assures that it has continuously monitored these settlements since the creation, in May 2025, of a working group with institutions and security forces. Currently, municipal social services have six vulnerability cases open and will offer support during the eviction.

The mayor of Eivissa, Rafael Triguero, has defended that the action responds to public health and safety criteria. "We cannot allow situations that involve undignified conditions and risks to people to become established," he stated, assuring that the council will act "with firmness but also with sensitivity" towards people in vulnerable situations.
