Three rescues in the Serra de Tramuntana in less than 24 hours
The Mallorca Firefighters activate the Milana helicopter in three interventions following falls and loss of hiker groups in Valldemossa, Pollença, and Escorca
PalmThe Mallorca Firefighters had to intervene in three rescue operations in the Serra de Tramuntana between Friday and Saturday, after five people —three adults and two children— were injured or got lost during excursions.
The first incident occurred on Friday afternoon on the Camí de ses Fontanelles, in Valldemossa, where a 47-year-old woman suffered a fall while on a route. The rescue was carried out with the Milana helicopter, which transferred the victim to Son Espases University Hospital.
Late on Friday, a search operation was launched in the Mortitx area, in Pollença, after a woman's husband reported that she and her two children, aged 6 and 7, had not returned from an excursion to the Cova de ses Bruixes. The Mountain Rescue Groups (GRM) from Inca and Sóller worked throughout the night until, around 6:00 AM on Saturday, the three hikers were located in good condition.
On Saturday morning, an intervention was also required in the es Frontó de sa Mola area, in Escorca, where a man had suffered a fall during the night. The Milana helicopter, along with the GRM of Sóller, evacuated the injured person and transferred him to Son Espases for medical assistance.
As highlighted by the Mallorca Firefighters, this last operation represents the 100th rescue by the Milana helicopter, a figure that demonstrates the body's intense work in the Serra de Tramuntana.
