PalmaThe environmental group GOB in Mallorca has warned that the Government intends to allow the modification of the protection regime of the Trenc-Salobrar de Campos natural park by decree, through an amendment included in the processing of the strategic projects law. As the organization has denounced, this modification would mean a "radical change" in the legal framework of the protected area, since until now any alteration of its regime required the approval of a law in Parliament.

With the new formula, the environmentalists have specified, the modification could be carried out directly by approval in the Governing Council. The GOB considers that this measure implies a "de-legalization" of the natural park in the south of Mallorca by lowering the normative rank of its regulation, which would facilitate the modification of permitted uses and activities, including those of a tourist, recreational or commercial nature.

The entity has also warned that the amendment could affect the urban planning protection level of the area, currently classified as a Natural Area of High Protection Level. This would open the door to new buildings or greater flexibility in land use, the collective asserted. The organization considers that this initiative responds to a broader strategy by Marga Prohens' executive to reduce the protection of natural spaces.

Furthermore, the GOB has lamented that these modifications are introduced in a law of an economic nature, which limits public debate, and for this reason they have requested the "immediate" withdrawal of the amendment and that the legal protection status of Trenc be maintained.
