PalmThe Balearic Government has begun the first comprehensive upgrade of Palma's Intermodal Station, focused on increasing and improving accessibility, safety, and comfort for public transport users. The project, which will be carried out and is expected to be completed throughout 2026, represents a total investment of €3.6 million. The main improvement is the installation of new escalators. The Minister of Housing, Territory, and Mobility, José Luis Mateo, presented the improvements to the Intermodal Station. This is the first renovation of the station in nearly 20 years, since its inauguration in 2007, and aims to modernize the facilities to create a more comfortable and safer space for users in three main areas: climate control, user information, and the creation of new spaces.

The station has seen a significant increase in users, both residents and visitors, almost tripling its numbers in six years, from 5.8 million in 2019 to the 16.5 million expected by 2025. With these renovations, the Government aims to guarantee a fully accessible station for people with reduced mobility and other groups. The renovations include improvements to public restrooms and the customer service office to enhance comfort, safety, and aesthetics. As part of the "Islands in Transformation" Infrastructure Plan promoted by the Government, the total investment for these projects is €3.6 million (excluding VAT), of which approximately €1 million has already been spent. The remainder will be implemented under the special scheme in some parts of the Balearic Islands, and in many other parts, some projects will be funded by the European Union's Next Generation EU funds, from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). New escalators

In total, all ten escalators at the Intermodal Station will be renovated. Last March, the four escalators providing access to the SFM train and metro platforms were replaced, and in November, work began on installing the new escalators leading to the Intermodal Station concourse, with the dismantling of two of the four exterior escalators. The installation of the four access escalators to the concourse and the two access escalators to the bus bays will be carried out in two phases: three escalators will be installed in the first phase, during the first quarter of 2026; the remaining three will be installed in the second phase, during the second quarter of the year. This is the first renovation of the escalators in nearly 20 years, since their installation in 2007. Other actions

In addition, other improvements will be carried out, such as the renovation of the customer service office, replacement of the pavement, installation of new restrooms, implementation of new signage in the station, and the creation of new bicycle parking areas. The works will take place throughout 2026 and will be organized in several phases to minimize disruption to service.
