The Government pays tribute to services and entities that assist victims of gender violence
The Government has paid tribute to six services and entities that carry out "essential work in the care, protection and support of victims of gender violence throughout the territory"
PalmThe Balearic Government held an official ceremony in the courtyard of Can Balaguer to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25). The event, led by President Marga Prohens, brought together institutional representatives, organizations, and professionals from across the islands. Prohens stated that it is essential to "continue raising our voices to break the silence and to continue fighting for the eradication of gender-based violence." During her address, she also noted that the number of femicides "demands that we speak out, act, and protect," and emphasized the need for effective protection from all levels of government.
The Balearic Government has honored six services and organizations that carry out "essential work in the care, protection, and support of victims of gender-based violence throughout the territory." Among those recognized were the IBDona 24-Hour Service, which handles 4,500 phone calls annually and offers continuous support to victims; the Ibiza Crisis Center, for the work of its team and its promotion of the specialized care model for sexual violence on the island; and the Formentera Women's Information and Support Point, for being a leader in providing local support and immediate response to emergency situations. The Federation of Local Entities of the Balearic Islands (FELIB), which unites municipal efforts for the prevention, detection, and coordination of policies against gender-based violence through the local coordination frameworks of the town halls, was also recognized. The Family Protection Unit of the Palma Local Police, essential in emergency response, psychological support, and urgent processing of police reports, and the Civil Guard of Menorca, for the creation of the "Sala Amable" (Safe Room), an adapted space in the Maó barracks that guarantees privacy, security, and peace of mind to women and children who are victims of gender-based violence.
