The rental price scandal reaches rural Mallorca: a shack on a rural property is advertised for €695
The ad published on Idealista offers a small shed on a rural property.
PalmThe housing crisis in Mallorca continues to produce listings that highlight the extent to which rental prices have skyrocketed. An ad on the real estate portal Idealista offers a brand-new "studio cabin" in "the heart of nature" for almost 700 euros a month, an offer that illustrates the pressure of the real estate market, even outside major urban centers.
The apartment, located just minutes from Maria de la Salut, is presented as an ideal long-term rental option "for someone seeking peace and quiet." According to the listing, it's a studio apartment without a separate bedroom, featuring a sofa bed, a kitchen equipped with a gas stove and oven, a refrigerator, and a wood-burning stove, all within a 20-square-meter space.
The publication highlights "the natural surroundings and operation with renewable energy," as it has solar panels and water from a well pumped using solar power. According to the same source, the cabin is part of a 7,142-square-meter property.
Yet another example of market tension
These types of offers come amidst a context of extreme tension in the Balearic rental market, with prices continuing to reach record highs and an increasingly limited supply. In recent years, several real estate reports have warned that rents have become more expensive even in rural areas of Mallorca, where it was previously common to find more affordable housing.
The combination of high demand, scarcity of supply and tourist pressure has led to very small spaces or spaces without conventional housing distribution being marketed at increasingly higher prices, a phenomenon that worries both institutions and social entities.
