'The Voice of the Sea', an exhibition about the beauty and fragility of the Mediterranean
The exhibition, which can be visited until August 31 in Palma, has been organized by MARE, the Port Authority and the Marilles Foundation.

PalmThe traveling exhibition The voice of the sea, The exhibition, which brings together the 32 winning photographs from the 2024 competition organised by MADRE, has been installed in front of the headquarters of the Balearic Port Authority (APB), where it will remain until 31 August.
According to Toni Ginard, director of the APB, on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition, the show "aims to raise greater awareness of the need to protect the Balearic Sea through art." Specifically, through images that reflect "the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea, but also its fragility."
Ginard emphasized that the initiative is aligned with the port institution's environmental projects, both in the areas under its jurisdiction and beyond, in collaboration with organizations such as the Marilles Foundation and MARE.
Itinerary in all the Balearic Islands
For his part, the general coordinator of MADRE, Amador Garcías, emphasized that this fifth edition of the competition "breaks records year after year, not only in terms of participation, but also in terms of quality."
As a novelty, he noted that this time the exhibition is traveling and tours all the islands with the support of institutions such as the APB and city councils, after opening at the beginning of the summer at Palma City Hall. The exhibition offers an "immersive experience" by incorporating QR codes in each photograph that link to the authors' Instagram accounts, where they share messages about their vision and commitment to marine conservation.
According to sources at MADRE, the initiative is inspired by the visual language of social media to reach all audiences, especially the younger generations. In this sense, Garcías emphasized the importance of bringing images to a diverse audience, especially foreign visitors who visit places like the port of Palma during the summer. "Beauty is the key to showcasing everything we have that, unfortunately, isn't so well known," he asserted.
The images, from professional photographers and amateurs, showcase the underwater biodiversity of the Balearic Mediterranean, scenes of ecological protest, and portraits of the relationship between people and the sea. The event also included special mentions in categories such as Marine Protected Areas, Water Quality, and Popular Vote. After its visit to Palma, the exhibition will continue its tour to other islands in September and October: from September 1 to 14 in Port Adriano (Mallorca), from September 15 to October 5 in Sant Francesc (Formentera), and from October 17 to November 9 in Sant Josep de sa Atalaya (Ibiza).
