The UIB's results worsen and it falls into the range of 701-800 in the world rankings.
The most highly valued university in the State is Barcelona

PalmThe University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) has seen its results worsen and is now in the 701-800 range of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), known as the Shanghai ranking, with only ten Spanish universities among the top 500.
The number of Spanish universities recognized among the top 1,000 globally once again stands at 36, the same number as last year's edition. The ranking, published every August 15, continues to be led by Harvard University, followed by Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, all three from the United States.
In Spain, the most highly rated university for yet another year is the University of Barcelona, which appears among the top 200, after appearing in the 201-300 range in 2023. Likewise, in 2025, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria appears in the ranking for the first time in the 901-1000 range. The University of Valladolid, present in the 901-1000 range in 2024, has left the ranking in this edition.
Meanwhile, eight universities worsened their results (Murcia, La Laguna, UIB, Lleida, Málaga, Jaume I, Castilla-La Mancha, and Girona). On the other hand, the University of Oviedo, Rovira i Virgili, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the University of Cantabria, and the University of Jaén improved theirs.
The Shanghai list maintains the University of Valencia in the 201-300 range. In the 301-400 range, we find the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Complutense University, Pompeu Fabra University, the University of Granada, and the University of the Basque Country.
In the next range, from 401-500, we find the Polytechnic University of Valencia and the Polytechnic University of Seville. Between the 501-600 range, we find the University of Navarra, the University of Salamanca, the University of Santiago de Compostela, and the University of Zaragoza. In the 601-700 range, we find the Polytechnic University of Madrid, the University of Alicante, the University of Murcia, the University of Oviedo, and the Rovira i Virgili University.
Between the 701-800 range, we find the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the University of Alcalá, the University of Cantabria, the University of Extremadura, the University of La Laguna, and the UIB. In the next range, 801-900, are the Universities of Jaén, Lleida, Málaga, and Vigo. Finally, in the last range, from 901 to 1,000, are the Carlos III University of Madrid, Jaime I University, Cádiz University, Castilla-La Mancha University, Córdoba University, Girona University, and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria University.
