PalmaThe workers of the Son Reus kennels, in Palma, are maintaining the indefinite strike that began this Monday to demand labor improvements and denounce the situation of "serious labor precarity and insecurity" that, according to UGT, the staff is suffering.

The mobilization continued this Tuesday without, for the moment, either the company or the Palma City Council having contacted the workers to try to unblock the conflict. According to the union, promoter of the strike, the staff has not received "any news" since the start of the work stoppage and hopes that the situation can change throughout this week.

UGT assures that the strike follow-up is 100% and that currently only the established minimum services are being met. The union has warned that these minimum services are affecting some of the tasks carried out by volunteer associations that are responsible, among other issues, for walking the dogs at the facility.

UGT denounces months of precarity

The union assures that for months it has been denouncing the conditions in which the Son Reus staff works, both in terms of salaries and occupational risk prevention and safety.

"For months we have been denouncing precariousness in all its aspects, salaries, in terms of occupational risk prevention, and absolutely no one has done or solved anything," UGT has denounced. The workers are thus demanding an improvement in their working conditions and measures to put an end to a situation they consider unsustainable.

No agreement at TAMIB

The parties tried to reach an agreement last week in a meeting held at the Arbitration and Mediation Court of the Balearic Islands (TAMIB), but the meeting ended without an agreement. For the moment, no new meeting is scheduled to resume negotiations. The staff thus maintains the indefinite strike while waiting for the company and the City Council to make a move and open a new channel of dialogue with the workers.
