They denounce that the Cort has denied "without any explanation" a transfeminist literary conference.
The organization explained that the event aims to be a space for meeting, thinking, and celebrating from the margins.
The Egua de Troia association has denounced that Palma City Council has denied them "without any explanation" permission to hold the 1st Transfeminist Conference scheduled for October 10, 11, and 12 in Plaza del Quadrado. According to them, the notification came to them via an email with spelling mistakes, unclear wording, and no arguments. They also criticized the fact that the denial was not officially notified and that no one wanted to receive the association's members.
"We believe that under the appearance of administrative negligence, this is a very clear political gesture of censorship and discrimination against a feminist, queer, intersectional, and community cultural project," expressed sources from the young association that organized a festival at Es Gremi. In fact, the proceeds from the concert, which will feature artists such as Tribade, Faenna, and O Rabelo, were supposed to fund part of the literary events' expenses, as they are entirely self-organized and the program includes talks, exhibitions, workshops, and performances, among other things.
The organizers explained that the event aims to be a space for encounter, reflection, and celebration from the margins. "A commitment to a literature that resists, transforms, and narrates from the perspective of sexual, gender, racial, bodily, and class dissidence," they explained. Furthermore, the event was expected to be attended by writers from Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Madrid, Barcelona, and Galicia, as well as writers and artists from Mallorca. Therefore, they have urged the Department of Internal Affairs to rectify and approve the permit for the events. However, the organization has drafted a letter of support for the organizers to force the Cort (City Council) to approve the events.
Cort (City Council) sources have indicated that they are gathering information about the events and will provide an explanation this Wednesday.
