The organization of the transfeminist literary conference considers that Cort has censored them

Palma City Council has denied the association's request based on a police report that includes "noise complaints."

Palma City Council has explained that the decision to deny the permit for the 1st Transfeminist Literary Conference to occupy public spaces is based on a report issued by the Local Police, which describes the events during the celebration of Librería Propia's second anniversary last April, in which they received "numerous new complaints."

When asked for the reasons for the withdrawal of the permit, City Council sources explained that at the previous event, requested by the same representative, the established time was also exceeded by two hours. The City Council assures that, furthermore, during the event, officers were "heckled," "which generated moments of tension, and a sizable group of attendees even surrounded the police, leading to the request for reinforcements to control the situation," said Cort sources.

For this reason, and considering the City Council's "commitment" to "respect for neighborhood coexistence and public safety," it has decided to deny the requested permit to avoid the recurrence of similar situations that "negatively affect residents and public order."

This is how the City Council responded after the Egua de Troia association reported that the Cort (City of Catalonia) had denied them "without any explanation" permission to hold the literary events scheduled for October 10, 11, and 12 in the Plaza del Quadrado. According to them, the notification came to them via an email with spelling mistakes, unclear wording, and no arguments. Furthermore, they criticized the fact that the denial was not officially notified, nor was there any desire to receive the association's members.

"We consider that under the appearance of administrative negligence, this is a very clear political gesture of censorship and discrimination against a feminist, queer, intersectional and community cultural project," said sources from the young association, which this Friday organized a festival to Es Gremi to finance the conference.

In this sense, the event organizers clarified that the conference program only includes talks and debates, as the festive part with music will take place this Friday "to avoid disturbing the neighbors." However, Egua de Troia assures that they have tried to convey this to the City Council, but they have not wanted to receive them and have been denied. Therefore, the association considers this a "clear case of censorship," since a cultural and literary event is being prohibited, "as stated in the program attached to the City Council's permit request," they pointed out.

However, the association has celebrated the fact that the conference will continue and will be held in different spaces near the Plaza del Quadrado, such as the Librería Propia, the Ateneo El Eléctrica, the ESADIB, and the La Impossible dance hall.

The organizers explained that the event aims to be a space for encounter, reflection, and celebration from the margins. "A commitment to a literature that resists, transforms, and narrates from the perspective of sexual, gender, racial, bodily, and class dissidence," they explained. Furthermore, writers from Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Madrid, Barcelona, and Galicia, as well as writers and artists from Mallorca, were expected to attend. Therefore, they have urged the Department of Internal Government to rectify and approve the permit for the event.
