Firecrackers and insults against a councilor from Bunyola: "Go suck it in Spain, you shit red"
The councilor of Esquerra Oberta Bunyola links the events to the criticisms he had published against the local government's management, while the City Council has not yet commented.
PalmThe councilor and spokesperson for Esquerra Oberta Bunyola in the Bunyola City Council, Joan Luna, has reported an attack with pyrotechnic devices against his home that took place this Tuesday evening, after the victory of the Spanish national team and their qualification for the World Cup final.
As reported by the political party, the events occurred hours after Luna published a post on his social media networks criticizing the management of the Popular Party's government team regarding the occupation of public space by an establishment in the town square and the broadcasting of the Spanish national team's matches. In this post, the councilor denounced that the establishment had irregularly occupied a public space and had installed screens to follow the matches without, as he claims, having the corresponding municipal permits. He also stated that, during the ordinary plenary session in July, he had asked the government team if any special authorization had been granted, and the answer had been negative.
Luna assures that before publishing the statement, he contacted the owner of the bar to warn them of the complaints received from several neighbors and suggest they apply for a special permit from the City Council. As there was no record, he states, of any registered request, he decided to make his denunciation public, in which he accused the government team of favoring this business and pointed out that the facts could constitute an alleged crime of prevarication. According to the councilor's account, after the match, a group of young people celebrating the Spanish national team's victory in Bunyola square began to hurl political and homophobic insults at him, among which, he assures, shouts like "Go suck it in Spain, you piece of shit communist" could be heard.
Subsequently, always according to the filed complaint, some of the participants went to his private residence, where they allegedly threw several pyrotechnic devices while shouting "Luna, son of a bitch." The councilor filed a complaint with the Civil Guard this Wednesday and states that he was able to identify at least one of the alleged perpetrators of the acts. In statements released by Esquerra Oberta Bunyola, Luna assured that "we cannot allow ourselves to be intimidated by a far-right clique that seeks to claim everyone's square as their own".
The spokesperson also politically holds the government team responsible for the situation experienced. In this regard, he considers that their actions have contributed to the climate that, he maintains, led to the reported aggression. "It would be surprising to receive a public apology from the government team, although it would be the least they should do," he states. So far, neither the Bunyola City Council nor the municipal government team have publicly commented on the accusations made by the councilor or on the reported events, which are known to the Civil Guard.
