PalmLucía Muñoz, Palma City Councilor and Podemos coordinator in the Balearic Islands; Alejandra Martínez, activist and communications specialist; and Reyes Rigo, activist and healthcare worker, were selected to embark on August 31st on the Global Sumud Flotilla, an international civil society initiative that will include more than 50 boats and representatives from over 44 countries. The fleet, which will depart from Barcelona for Gaza, will be the largest collective effort by the international solidarity movement with Palestine to break the blockade on Gaza and will include sailors, healthcare workers, legal experts, and activists from around the world, including actress Susan Sarandon, Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, and the Brazilian actor.

Lucía, Reyes, and Alejandra, all residents of Palma, appeared this morning to announce that they will depart for Barcelona this Wednesday, where they will receive four days of training before sailing to Tunisia on the 31st. There, on September 4th, "more boats from all over the Mediterranean will join." "On these boats there are artists, politicians, journalists, and human rights defenders," Rigo specified, adding that "we will not carry weapons; we are boats of conscience that defy genocide, apartheid, imperialism, and capitalism." "I join this mission for humanity, for dignity, and for human rights, because silence is complicity, and because international solidarity is nothing new. Fifty years ago, thousands of brigade members came to Spain to fight for freedom," the activist concluded.

"We are three women from Mallorca who joined this mission, aware of the risks," declared Alejandra Martínez. The activist affirmed that they all know they have "no guarantee of safety and that there are precedents of serious attacks on international law and human rights by the genocidal state of Israel." However, Martínez believes that "there is no greater risk to humanity than to say nothing and do nothing in the face of the genocidal offensive of the State of Israel, which has been starving thousands of people in Gaza and has been committing a televised genocide for two years and a colonial and partisan project for fifty years."

Finally, Lucía Muñoz declared that "in the face of the silence and complicity of Sánchez, Prohens, and the European governments, the people of Mallorca are responding." "We want to make it clear that this is an avoidable action," continued the Podemos councilor, also noting that "if it weren't for the inaction of public institutions, it wouldn't be three women from Mallorca and thousands of other civilians making that cry of response to the genocide." Muñoz also expressed his gratitude for "the demonstrations in support of the fleet called for the 31st in the main ports of Mallorca (Alcudia, Palma, Portocolom, and Sóller)," given that "they are the only guarantee of safety we have."
