Two evictions of a woman and a family scheduled for this Thursday from storage units on Avenida Joan Miró have been suspended.
Stop Evictions has demanded the "immediate" expropriation of these properties rented illegally by a local police officer.

PalmThe judicial delegation has halted two evictions scheduled for this Thursday affecting a woman and a family living in the storage rooms on Avenida Joan Miró, owned by the Palma local police officer fined by the regional government for renting these substandard apartments.
According to Stop Evictions Mallorca, the evictions concern a family with three children, two of whom are minors, and a woman living in the substandard apartments. The organization has called for a halt to all evictions initiated or that may be initiated by the local police, as well as the reconnection of disconnected utilities. Furthermore, it has demanded the "immediate" expropriation of these properties and denounced that neither Palma City Council nor the regional government "are taking any notice."
On the other hand, Stop Evictions has reported that another eviction was scheduled for this Thursday, in Son Gotleu, which was suspended due to legal proceedings. Regarding the evictions on Avenida Joan Miró, two National Police vans arrived at 6:00 a.m., followed by two more vans and four cars, the organization said in a statement.
Several Stop Evictions protesters and residents were in the basements to prevent the evictions, and, according to Stop Evictions, the police "changed their peaceful attitude" after realizing the difficulties in carrying out the eviction. In this case, the court has suspended the evictions. Lucía Muñoz, a Podemos Palma councilor, attended the demonstration and will present a motion to request the families' relocation at the next plenary session. Representatives from Stop Evictions will speak at this month's municipal plenary session. Members of the Aurora collective and the CGT also participated.
