PalmThe partial collapse of a hotel in Calvià this Thursday night has led to the partial evacuation of the establishment and the sealing off of the affected area, as reported by the Mallorca Firefighters. Two people have sustained minor injuries, both with superficial wounds and one case of fainting. This Friday, the establishment's management has decided to close the hotel for safety reasons, and guests are being rehoused in nearby hotels.
The incident occurred around 9:00 PM at the Zafiro Rey Don Jaime hotel, when a section of the sanitary slab collapsed, affecting approximately 30 square meters of the ceiling. Given the situation, a partial evacuation of the hotel was carried out to ensure the safety of guests and staff.
Once the structure has been reviewed, the firefighters have decided to seal off the affected area and have prepared a report with precautionary measures, which has been handed over to the Local Police and the establishment's owners. Personnel from the Calvià station, including a sergeant, a non-commissioned officer, and specialized technicians, have been dispatched to the scene.
Municipal technicians are collaborating with the Judicial Police, who have opened an investigation to clarify the causes of the incident. The mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, explained to IB3 Ràdio that the event "was a scare".
The Calvià City Council has explained that the tourists have been able to return to the hotel, although some of them have left it. The injured have been transferred to the Juaneda clinic.
