Videos of the chaos caused by the floods in Ibiza
Rainfall of more than 200 liters per square meter in just a few hours has flooded roads, homes, cars, and schools, in a historic day.

PalmThe heavy rains in Ibiza and Formentera, which have left up to 200 liters per square meter in just a few hours, have caused numerous incidents and a devastating landscape: road closures, flooding, and preventive evacuation, as well as the closure of a school. During the night, the rain flooded the underpasses of the airport road, which were closed to traffic, forcing detours via overpasses. Furthermore, until 7:20 a.m., part of the Jesús roundabout was also closed, according to the Ibiza Council. The heavy rainfall continued throughout the morning on the island, causing chaos and a landscape of water and mud that will take days to disappear.
Early this afternoon, the Military Emergency Unit (UME) was permanently activated in Ibiza following the heavy rains recorded on the island this Tuesday.
Reinforcements are expected to arrive from both Mallorca and Valencia. The Government has announced that volunteers from Civil Protection, Ibanat (National Institute of Emergency Situations), the Consell de Mallorca Fire Department, and the Emergency Department have also been recruited to support the Ibizan municipalities most affected by the floods.
The municipality of Ibiza and areas of Santa Eulària and Sant Josep have been the areas on the island of Ibiza most affected by the storms. Due to the accumulation of water, a massive civil protection alert has been sent to the population of Ibiza and Formentera via the EsAlert system with the message: "Risk of flooding due to torrential rains. The population is requested to avoid travel and outdoor activities. If water enters, please go to upper floors."
The intensity of the rainfall has also had a direct impact on the dynamics of schools. As a preventive measure, the Ministry of Education and Universities, and on the recommendation of the General Directorate of Emergencies, has informed families and teachers that students should remain at their schools to avoid travel, at least until 4 p.m., and this has been done. Classes this afternoon have also been suspended, both in Ibiza and Formentera.
As a result of the heavy rains, an inspection is scheduled for this Wednesday at Ibiza's schools. Technicians and architects from Ibisec will visit the school facilities to examine their condition and detect possible structural damage caused by the rainfall. The Minister of Education, Antoni Vera, will also visit the island's schools. One example of the damage is the need to evacuate the Santísima Trinidad Shopping Center in Sant Antoni de Portmany.
