The far-right left the Mallorca Council plenary session during the minute of silence for Palestine proposed by PSIB councilor Silvia Alonso during her control question. It should be recalled that Vox rejected the Socialist group's proposal to hold a minute of silence "in memory of the victims of the genocide being committed in Gaza by Israel," as explained by the PSIB in a statement.

At the end of the minute of silence, the president of the island institution, Llorenç Galmés, stated that "the Mallorca Council will always defend peace and condemns any type of violence and all the armed conflicts that unfortunately exist in the world." Along the same lines, he asserted that the governing team "condemns Hamas terrorism and also the humanitarian tragedy taking place in Gaza, as a result of Israel's military campaign. However, we will never use this humanitarian tragedy for political and electoral gain as other parties do."

The president also hoped that Reyes Rigo, the Mallorcan woman who remains detained in Israel for biting a prison official last Sunday, "can return home as soon as possible."

He also stressed that "the minutes of silence observed at the island institution have always been held with the unanimity of all political parties." And regarding the minute of silence observed today, "there was no unanimity among the Board of Spokespersons." He also stated that Vox had positioned itself against the socialist initiative and that El Pi "did not speak out."

El Pi spokesperson, Toni Salas, attacked Galmés and reproached him for the fact that the regional minister for the presidency, Antoni Fuster, "seeing that Vox was standing firm, did not even allow his own spokesperson to speak." On the other hand, he asserted that El Pi intended to comment on the issue in the second round of the Spokespersons' Meeting, but "the first round wasn't even completed," something he considered "a disgrace." Similarly, he emphasized that neither El Pi nor the PP were able to speak.

It should be remembered that Vox had already interrupted the minute of silence for Palestine that Socialist MP Malena Riudavets impromptuly called in the Parliament. Vox MPs Sergio Rodríguez and María José Verdú banged on their seats to break the silence.
