Water reserves in the Balearic Islands rise to 51% in January
Ibiza returns to normal after three years out of this situation
PalmWater reserves in the Balearic Islands rose two percentage points in January to reach 51% of capacity, and Ibiza entered a normal situation, something that had not happened since December 2022. By island, Mallorca rose from 49% to 51%; Menorca, from 46% to 49%, and Ibiza, from 48% to 51%.
Regarding the demand units (UD), eight show increases: Menorca, Artà, Manacor-Felanitx, Palma-Alcudia, Tramuntana Nord, Tramuntana Sud, Ibiza and Formentera, while the UD Migjorn remains stable.
The most significant promotions are those of UD Tramuntana Sud, Tramuntana Nord, and Ibiza, which are now in a normal situation, while UD Artà moves to pre-alert status.
The Plan, on alert
Currently, 44.2% of the territory (Formentera, Migjorn, Tramuntana Nord, Tramuntana Sud, and Ibiza) is in a normal situation; 45.6% (Menorca, Artà, Manacor-Felanitx, and Palma-Alcúdia) is on pre-alert, and 10.2% (the Pla region) remains on alert. It should be noted that UD Eivissa had not been in a normal situation since December 2022.
The overall index for the Hydrographic Demarcation stands at 0.489, higher than that recorded a year ago (0.450) and two years ago (0.481), a figure that indicates a favorable trend in reserves compared to those periods.

According to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), January was considered a very wet month across the Balearic Islands in terms of rainfall, with an average of 115.2 l/m², almost double the historical average (60.3 l/m²). By island, Mallorca recorded 119.9 l/m² (vs. 59.5 l/m²), Menorca 96.0 l/m² (vs. 53.8 l/m²), Ibiza 110.8 l/m² (vs. 46.0 l/m²), and Ibiza 46.0 l/m² (vs. 33.7 l/m²). The year-on-year precipitation percentage stands at 117% across the Balearic Islands, with values of 111% in Mallorca, 125% in Menorca, and 159% in the Pitiusas Islands. Regarding temperature, December was classified as warm, with an average temperature of 11.0 ºC and a positive anomaly of +0.8 ºC. Given the current context and time of year, water reserves are expected to continue increasing in the Balearic Islands during February, with no significant changes in the demand scenarios, but consolidating the improvement in those units that have experienced the most significant increases.
