What will the new Germans Escales sports center be like after the renovation costing more than 6 million euros?
The swimming pools, changing rooms and access points will be renovated and the stands of the pavilion will be expanded in two phases until 2026.
PalmThe Germans Escales municipal sports center will undergo a complete renovation that will transform the facilities entirely, with an investment of over €6.2 million and a project divided into two phases.
The project includes a thorough renovation of the swimming poolsThe changing rooms and the entire building will be renovated with the aim of modernizing it in terms of accessibility, energy efficiency, and functionality. The project addresses the state of disrepair observed in recent years, particularly in the pool area. The first phase, focused on this area, will include the complete renovation of both pools—the competition pool and the teaching pool—with structural reinforcement, new waterproofing, and replacement of the plumbing. Non-slip flooring and a saline chlorination system will also be installed to improve water quality and reduce the use of chemicals.
One of the most significant changes will be the expansion and modernization of the changing rooms, which will increase from 238 to over 420 square meters. The new layout will allow for more natural light and will include separate spaces for users, staff, and people with reduced mobility. In addition, the materials, climate control, and waterproofing systems will be completely renovated. At the same time, accessibility will be improved with systems that allow independent access to the pool and the renovation of adapted spaces. Work will also be carried out in common areas, such as the entrance, public restrooms, and cafeteria, as well as the creation of new storage spaces for sports clubs.
The second phase will complete the modernization of the facility with the rehabilitation of the roof, improved insulation, and replacement of lighting. The facility's climate control systems and electrical installations will also be renovated, incorporating energy consumption control mechanisms. Outside, access will be improved with new ramps and stairs, while inside the pavilion, the stands will be expanded to increase capacity, and the court surface will be replaced with more durable materials.
The first phase of the works has a planned execution period of one and a half years and is expected to begin at the end of 2026, after the bidding process. During this period, the sports center will remain partially operational. The project was conceived after the precautionary closure of the swimming pools in July 2025, following a technical report that warned of structural problems, waterproofing deficiencies, and accessibility issues that necessitated a comprehensive intervention.
