PalmPalma City Council has announced the closure of the swimming pools at the Germans Escales sports center starting this Thursday after the latest report detected "serious deficiencies." City Council sources explained that they will remain closed as a preventative measure until the facility is fully renovated.

This was explained this Wednesday by the deputy spokesperson for the City Council, Llorenç Bauzá, at the press conference to present the agreements of the Governing Board. The Governing Council of the Municipal Sports Institute (IME) deemed it appropriate, as a preventative measure and for safety reasons, to close the pools after detecting "serious deficiencies" in the pool's structure and framework. The municipal spokesperson asked for "understanding" from users and assured that relocation to other facilities would be guaranteed.

In fact, through a press release, they emphasized that as a result of the temporary closure of the pool, swimming classes will be suspended and, in order to minimize the impact on affected users, the Municipal Sports Institute (IME) is working on a relocation plan for the course participants, through various complementary measures.

In this sense, course participants who wish to continue their classes at another municipal center may request a place with priority on the waiting list at the chosen center. To do so, they will have to contact the coordination of this facility directly. The Directed Activities Program (PAD) will continue to be active, with the exception of aquatic activities such as aquagym.

Finally, members are reminded that they can continue to use the rest of the municipal swimming pools during their regular opening hours.

The planned investment for the complete renovation of the facility amounts to 2.5 million euros and includes work on the entire facility, which will have to be completely closed once the work begins.

Bauzá emphasized, however, that although the pool area will no longer be operational, the rest of the complex (gym, changing rooms, activity and fitness rooms, as well as the sports hall) will continue to operate normally.
