PalmaA figure dressed in traditional peasant attire, her face hidden behind a skull mask and, often, dragging a large bag of rubbish. This is how Madò Farta has presented herself on social media, a new anonymous character who, in a few days, has begun to make her mark in different settings in Mallorca with a message against tourist overcrowding and, in particular, against incivility.

In the videos published on her profile, she can be seen collecting rubbish on the beach of Palma. The mysterious peasant woman also participated a few days ago in the popular singing of La Balanguera and this Sunday she was seen again during the presentation of the large demonstration called by the platform Menys Turisme, Més Vida for the upcoming July 26th. In a photograph shared by the profile Germanor Mallorquina she appears holding a sign with a forceful message: "If you don't love Mallorca, get out".

The Menys Turisme, Més Vida call was presented at the foot of the Cathedral, one of the busiest spots for visitors arriving in the city. In fact, the platform has called to "collapse" the city to denounce the effects of mass tourism.

During the presentation, the platform warned that "Mallorca is at its limit" and assured that, one more year, everything points to an increase in the number of visitors, the cost of living, and business profits, while the living conditions of the working class continue to deteriorate. According to their spokespeople, "no real change will arrive without sustained social mobilization." With this objective, they have once again called to take to the streets to defend the right to housing, territory, public services, language, culture, decent working conditions, and the future of Mallorca.

This summer, moreover, the platform has announced an increase in protest actions against touristification. And, if its first appearances are any indication, it is very likely that among the banners and mobilizations, the enigmatic figure of Madò Farta, the peasant with a cadaverous face who rails against mass tourism, will once again be seen.
