PalmThe Association of Journalists of the Balearic Islands (APIB) has launched the second edition of its project to promote newspaper reading among young people, which offers a free quarterly subscription to a Balearic newspaper. This initiative, subsidized by the Government's General Directorate for Youth, includes all the Balearic Islands' newspapers and is therefore a great opportunity to obtain a free quarterly subscription to ARA Baleares, the Catalan-language newspaper of the Balearic Islands. You'll find the subscription link here.
In the case of the ARA Baleares, the offer includes, in addition to three months of full digital subscription (unlimited access to the ARA Baleares and theARA.cat), a paper subscription to the weekly ARA Balears for the same period, which means being able to enjoy at least 12 weeklies for free, and two tickets to the CineCiutat.
More than half a thousand young people signed up for the last edition. The aim is to give visibility to professional and verified media as sources of truthful information as opposed to fake news or fake news"For us, this project contributes to media literacy and encourages young people to stay informed about current events through rigorous journalism, reminding them that even media consumption should be done with a critical mindset," said Ángeles Durán, president of APIB.
The General Directorate of Youth has allocated €29,000 to the project, and 73% of the first edition received subscriptions. The gender distribution among applicants was similar, with a slight bias toward women, with 284 subscriptions (51.45%). 267 men registered subscriptions (48.37%).
This project aims to contribute to promoting reading among young people, the benchmark for a country or region's cultural level; to make them understand that information is a fundamental right essential in a democratic society; to encourage them to be informed about aspects of public life and their environment, promoting civic participation; to develop a critical spirit that will drive them to intervene in the public sphere; and to combat fake news using professional and proven channels.
