A Mallorcan basketball player arrives at the NBA
The Los Angeles Clippers have chosen him during this morning's draft
PalmaThe Mallorcan forward Papa Ababacar Bava Niang Miller, 22 years old and 2.11 meters tall, has been chosen number 36 by the Los Angeles Clippers in the draft of the American professional basketball league, the NBA.
The Clippers selected the forward from the University of Cincinnati, where he played 31 games and averaged 13.0 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists, with a 52.9% field goal percentage, last season.
"Bava is an athletic and skilled forward with great wingspan and good game sense. He is an excellent passer, finisher, and rebounder, as well as a versatile defender," stated Lawrence Frank, president of basketball operations for the Clippers.
The Mallorcan forward led the Big 12 conference of the university league (NCAA) in rebounds and became the first player since Oscar Robertson (1959-60) to lead Cincinnati in points, rebounds, and assists. For this reason, Miller was included in the second ideal team of one of the most important conferences in the NCAA and in the Big 12 All-Freshman team.
Born in Mallorca, Miller played in the lower divisions of Real Madrid and is one of the Golden Boys who became under-19 world champions with the Spanish national team in 2023. Miller thus joins Aday Mara and Sergio Larrea, who will play for Oklahoma and the Mavericks, as the three Spaniards chosen this Wednesday and Thursday in the draft lottery for the upcoming 2026-27 NBA season.
"It's a great opportunity and it depends a lot on what we do with it. That will determine what we will be in the future. We have a lot to prove, but it's a big step towards the future," commented Miller after the announcement of his selection by the Clippers.
