Unemployment falls 7.8% year-on-year in the Balearic Islands in April
The Balearics gain more than 65,000 affiliates in April and exceed 600,000 contributors
PalmaRegistered unemployment at the public employment services offices has fallen by 1,972 people in April in the Balearic Islands compared to the previous month (-7.44%) and by 2,080 people compared to the fourth month of last year (-7.81%) and stands at 24,546 unemployed, according to data published this Tuesday by the Ministry of Labour. Affiliation to Social Security has increased by 3.1% year-on-year, with 18,277 more affiliations.
The Balearic Islands have surpassed 600,000 affiliates to Social Security, with 605,630, which is 18,277 more than a year ago and an increase of 3.1%, according to data from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. Compared to March, it has increased by 12%, with 65,242 more affiliations.
In April, the sectors with the most unemployed are Services (17,797 with 1,665 fewer than in April), Construction (2,954 with 113 fewer), while the sectors with the fewest unemployed are Agriculture (303 and 18 fewer) and Industry (1,138 and 51 fewer unemployed).
Regarding sexes, of the 24,546 unemployed registered in April, 14,024 are women and 10,522 are men. Unemployment among young people under 25 years of age stood at 2,640 people, of whom 1,497 are men and 1,143 are women.
In the fourth month of the year, unemployment among foreigners stood at 5,089 people after falling 11.99% compared to March and 5.88% compared to the previous year.
Hiring
In April, 43,725 contracts were registered in the Balearic Islands, 8.4% more than the previous year. Of these, 32,803 were permanent contracts (+2.38%) and 10,922 were temporary contracts (31.64% more).
