Unemployment in the Balearic Islands falls 4.5% in the first quarter

PalmUnemployment fell by 4.5% in the first quarter of the year in the Balearic Islands, with a total of 91,800 unemployed people, which is 4,400 less than in the same period of 2025, and 76.5% more than the previous quarter, with 39,800 more unemployed people in the islands.
In the country, the labor market lost 170,300 employed people between January and March, 40,900 in the Balearic Islands, and added 231,500 unemployed, a period usually unfavorable for employment that leaves the worst first quarter since 2013 in terms of unemployment, which has placed the unemployment rate back above 1.0.
The end of the Christmas campaign for the hospitality and retail sectors has led to the destruction of 228,400 jobs in the services sector, so that the total number of employed people has fallen to 22,293,000, despite an increase in employment in industry, construction, and agriculture.
According to the active population survey (EPA) published this Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the total number of unemployed rose to 2.7 million, after adding 162,100 in the services sector, 13,000 in industry, and 9,500 in agriculture.
