Erik Truffaz, Antonio Lizana and China Moses lead Mallorca Jazz sa Pobla
The Festival, which this year is dedicated to the 100 years of Miles Davis, wants to promote new generations of jazz with the JAZZDARA cycle and will allocate part of the proceeds to research into FOXG1 syndrome
PalmaThe Mallorca Jazz sa Pobla Festival reaches its 32nd edition, consolidated as one of the most important jazz events in the Balearic Islands. From July 28 to August 20, sa Pobla will once again become a meeting point for artists, creators, and enthusiasts with a program that combines big international names, emerging talent, training activities, and social commitment.
The 2026 edition commemorates the centenary of Miles Davis, one of the most influential figures in the history of jazz. His legacy inspires a program that champions innovation, creative freedom, and jazz's ability to constantly reinvent itself.
The festival, produced by the Sa Pobla City Council, continues thanks to the decisive support of institutions and entities such as the Consell de Mallorca, the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics, the Fundació Guillem Cifre de Colonya and the hotel company JS Hotels.
Erik Truffaz and Antonio Lizana inaugurate the festival
The program will open with one of the great events of the summer culture in Mallorca: New Sketches of Spain, starring Swiss trumpeter Erik Truffaz and Andalusian saxophonist and singer Antonio Lizana. Truffaz is considered one of the great figures of contemporary European jazz and one of the most personal heirs of Miles Davis' musical legacy. With a consolidated international career, he has developed his own language that combines jazz, electronics, and world music.
Alongside him, Antonio Lizana has become one of the main international references in current flamenco-jazz. His music has travelled stages in over 30 countries and represents one of the most original contributions of contemporary Spanish music.
In an octet format, they will present a contemporary reinterpretation of Sketches of Spain, the masterpiece that Miles Davis, with arrangements by Gil Evans, recorded in 1960, inspired by Spanish music. It will be the inaugural and free concert in Plaça Major.
China Moses, one of the great voices of current jazz
The international programming will continue on Tuesday, August 4, at Can Cirera Prim park, with the presence of China Moses, an artist who has managed to build her own career beyond the family legacy of her mother, Dee Dee Bridgewater.
Singer, composer, and communicator, Moses is today one of the most personal voices in contemporary jazz, capable of integrating jazz, soul, R&B, and current music with extraordinary elegance and stage presence.
Her performance represents a unique opportunity to hear one of the most outstanding artists on the international scene.
New languages for 21st-century jazz
The programming also focuses on innovative projects that explore new sounds and push the boundaries of contemporary jazz.
Among them, Blau Salvatge stands out, a project led by the Mallorcan composer and vibraphonist Joan Pérez-Villegas, a multicultural octet that combines jazz, chamber music, and traditional influences in a proposal of enormous innovative and fresh sonic richness.
Lucía Rey Cuarteto will also be present, one of the most valued emerging ensembles on the national scene. The Madrid-born pianist will present Nómadas, a project that combines contemporary jazz, Mediterranean folklore, and new sonic textures, recently recognized with one of the awards granted by the Jazz España platform in a selection of the country's best musical projects.
JAZZDARA: the future of jazz passes through sa Pobla
The JAZZDARA cycle reaffirms the festival's commitment to supporting new creators. The public will be able to discover, in the courtyard of the Can Verdal space, the proposals of Fran Ramos Quartet, one of the most outstanding emerging voices in Valencian jazz; Goran Levi Quartet, a representative of the new generation of Balearic jazz; and Tomeu & Joan Garcias Quartet, a project that brings together two of the most promising Majorcan musicians of today.
New proposals
The Mallorca Jazz sa Pobla Festival continues to grow with new proposals designed to broaden audiences and enrich the cultural experience beyond the concerts. Among the new features is GLOJAZZADA, scheduled at the small square of the Crestatx oratory, an experience that fuses jazz and improvised glosa, connecting Mallorcan oral tradition with contemporary creation.
JAZZET is also incorporated, a family educational day at the Can Planes museum with workshops, participatory activities, and a concert to introduce jazz to children through play, listening, and creativity. Aimed at families with children from 0 to 10 years old.
The most participatory aspect will arrive with SA POBLA LINDY JAZZ CONNEXIÓ, scheduled at Plaça del Metge Duet, a proposal with live music, introductory workshops, and social dancing that invites all audiences to discover the universe of Lindy Hop and swing rhythms.
More than concerts
The programming of the Mallorca Jazz sa Pobla Festival is complemented by a wide range of parallel activities that turn the event into a multidisciplinary cultural experience. Among the highlighted proposals are the presentation of the book Sketches of Catalonia, by Pere Pons, and a conference dedicated to the centenary of Miles Davis's birth.
This year, the Mallorca Jazz sa Pobla Festival Award 2026 will be presented to journalist and music critic Ferran Pereyra, in recognition of his long professional career, his connection with the festival, and his contribution to the dissemination and promotion of jazz. Coinciding with this tribute, the public will be able to visit the photographic exhibition Stolen Moments, a selection of images captured by Pereyra himself during various jazz festival concerts, at Can Cirera Prim park.
Jazz will also meet cinema thanks to the screening of Köln 75, a film that tells the fascinating story behind one of the most emblematic moments of 20th-century jazz: the concert that Keith Jarrett gave in Cologne in 1975 and which gave rise to The Köln Concert. With over four million copies sold, this recording remains one of the best-selling and most influential solo piano jazz albums in history.
Music with a cause
This year, the Mallorca Jazz sa Pobla Festival is strengthening its social dimension by allocating part of the proceeds to research into FOXG1 syndrome. Through this cause, the festival will contribute to driving research into this rare neurological disease and will support affected families.
Albert Pinya, author of the festival's image
The official image of the 32nd edition, created by Albert Pinya, fully connects with the festival's values: creativity, innovation, diversity, and freedom of expression, with its vibrant style, influenced by popular culture and marked by a critical vision of current reality. His work symbolizes jazz as a meeting place between disciplines, generations, and diverse sensibilities.
