More than 200 educational centers will participate in the simultaneous singing of 'La Balanguera'
The initiative driven by the OCB will culminate on May 29th with two simultaneous singing events in the centers and squares of all municipalities to commemorate the centenary of the musical premiere of the work
PalmMore than 200 educational centers in Mallorca have already confirmed their participation in the great simultaneous singing of La Balanguera promoted by Obra Cultural Balear on the occasion of the centenary of the musical premiere of the poem by Joan Alcover with music by Amadeu Vives. The initiative will take place next Friday, May 29, and will turn schools, squares, and public spaces throughout the island into stages for a collective celebration around the Mallorcan anthem.
The entity has made an open call for citizen participation and has presented a video to encourage popular involvement in this historic event. The action will culminate in two large simultaneous sing-alongs: a first at 12 noon in the educational centers of Mallorca and a second at 8 p.m. in the squares and public spaces of the island's municipalities.
Town councils, cultural entities, choirs, music bands, and social groups from all over Mallorca will participate in the afternoon popular sing-along. According to the OCB, the objective is to turn the day into "a massive outcry in defense and reaffirmation of our identity and personality as a people," as well as to reinforce the feeling of Mallorcan identity.
The initiative is part of the commemoration of the Year of Alcover, coinciding with the centenary of the poet's death and the hundredth anniversary of the musical premiere of La Balanguera, performed for the first time on May 29, 1926, at the Palau de la Música Catalana. All information about the sing-along, participation maps, and related resources can be found on the project's website.
