PalmThe third day of the new week of doctors' strikes in the Balearic Islands has forced the cancellation of a total of 3,863 appointments, diagnostic tests, and surgeries across the archipelago, according to provisional data released Wednesday by the Balearic Islands Health Service (Ib-Salut). Mallorca is the most affected island, with 3,249 medical procedures canceled. The majority of the cancellations occurred in primary care, with 2,180 appointments postponed. Regarding outpatient consultations and diagnostic tests, 1,615 appointments were canceled, while 68 surgeries were suspended.

By island, Mallorca accounts for the largest share of the impact: 1,735 primary care visits, 1,457 outpatient appointments and diagnostic tests, and 57 surgeries. Menorca has recorded 201 affected medical procedures, distributed among 112 primary care visits, 86 outpatient appointments, and 3 surgeries. Ibiza has seen 413 cancellations, of which 333 are primary care visits, 72 are outpatient appointments and diagnostic tests, and 8 are surgeries. The medical union has reiterated that the protests will continue until progress is made in negotiations regarding working conditions and a reduction in workload, a situation that has the Balearic healthcare system on high alert. The Balearic Health Service (Ib-Salut) insists that it is working to reschedule the affected appointments and minimize the impact on patients, while also warning that the accumulated backlog could continue for the coming weeks.
