Accuse the Government of turning the Llucmajor Marina into an "energy megapolis"

PalmaThe platform Renovables sí, però així no has criticized the Government's decision to declare the Son Cànaves I and II and Na Forana photovoltaic parks as strategic industrial projects. The entity considers that this decision "disregards" municipal sovereignty and "sacrifices" the Marina de Llucmajor area to turn it into an "energy megapolygon".

In a statement, the platform points out that the two projects involve the installation of more than 50,000 photovoltaic panels over more than 20 hectares of rural land in La Marina, an area it describes as one of the "most important and best-preserved spaces of high environmental, biodiversity, and agroforestry value in Mallorca". "Instead of preserving it, the Government allows its transformation into a large energy industrial estate, without energy or territorial planning," the organization maintains.

The platform also denounces that this "massive deployment" of photovoltaic plants is carried out without any prior territorial or energy planning. It recalls that in Llucmajor there are already 7 plants in operation and 29 more in processing. According to the entity, the current energy transition model prioritizes the occupation of rural land with high agricultural and ecological value, while setting aside other alternatives, such as public infrastructure, building roofs, and industrial areas.

Strategic industrial projects

The platform also criticizes the Government for having declared these parks as strategic industrial projects, because it considers that this decision "disdains" municipal sovereignty, after the Llucmajor City Council issued unfavorable reports on both projects.

For all these reasons, Renewables yes, but not like this demands the immediate halting of the projects planned in La Marina and requests to expand the Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA) of Cap Enderrocat-Cap Blanc to include the central part of La Marina. "We cannot allow rural land and biodiversity to become the bargaining chip of an energy model based on energy speculation and invisibilization," concludes the statement.
