Galmés steps on the gas: the bill to limit vehicles is already in Parliament
The president of the Consell de Mallorca pushes the deadlines so that it is approved as soon as possible
PalmaThe president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, has already registered the insular institution's proposal to limit vehicle entry to the island in Parliament, as stated in the Chamber's registry. The popular politician is pushing the deadlines to try to get the regulation definitively approved before the legislature ends, although it is already late for this tourist season and there are doubts that he will achieve it. However, the parties have already confirmed that they will maintain their position in Parliament and, therefore, he has the necessary majority.

For their part, the deputy spokesperson for the PSIB, Marc Pons, recalled that the socialists had already offered the Government to introduce the law via decree-law in Parliament, which would allow it to be applied with immediate effect. However, the Executive has insisted on respecting the procedures of the Insular Council. For this reason, Pons warned that "we will not see results" from the law this legislature due to a "calculation by the PP, which does not have the courage to apply it." He also confirmed the socialists' vote in favour of the law: "We promoted the limitation of vehicle entry to Formentera; we later promoted that of the island of Ibiza; we fought for Mallorca and Menorca," he justified.
"What they boast so much about and did not do in eight years, the PP will have completed in just over three," said the spokesperson for the PP, Sebastià Sagreras, in relation to the left. In this sense, he defended that "it is now the responsibility of the groups for the law to be approved with the maximum possible urgency." According to the PP's calculations, the law could be finally approved in November.

Thus, she lamented the lack of infrastructure, "roads and parking lots" to alleviate the circulatory chaos, which she attributed to inaction over the last twenty years. "The population is growing, I don't know what they want us to do," she considered. Nevertheless, she ruled out that her discontent with the norm would end up altering the parliamentary alliance of the PP and Vox in relation to the pending legislation, such as the agrarian law and the coastal law. "Whoever is interested in this distance from Vox is the PP, and they are causing these situations," she said.
In line with the law already in force in Ibiza, the regulations promoted by the Council allow for the setting of a vehicle cap, which will determine how many can enter and remain on the island during periods of highest influx. Entry restrictions will not apply to temporary workers, nor to rental vehicles owned by residents or companies based in the Islands. For non-residents who own a house in Mallorca, they will only be able to bring one car.
