Prohens criticizes Porquer's intrusion into Trenc: "My style is respect"
The president distances herself from the attitude of the mayor of Campos, who interrupted the reading of the manifesto against the lack of protection of this area
PalmaThe president of the Government, Marga Prohens, criticized this Monday the intervention of the mayor of Campos, Francisca Porquer (PP), at the Trenc demonstration on Sunday. The mayor positioned herself next to the writer Sebastià Alzamora and the spokesperson for the GOB, Tonina Siquier, while they were reading the manifesto, and made gestures towards the people who were concentrated. In an attention to the media, the president distanced herself from this attitude: "My style is respect." Asked about whether Porquer intended to provoke the demonstrators, she said: "I have been clear".
"I have been very respectful of all mobilizations, because this is a free and democratic society," said the head of the Executive when asked about the mayor's behavior. Prohens made these statements after the second vice-president, Antònia Estarellas, avoided publicly condemning Porquer's actions, although she expressed "maximum respect" for any protest.
Against the PP's strategy
Government sources admit that Porquer's actions have dynamited the PP's communication strategy. "In these years of government, confrontation and getting into close combat with civil society have been avoided," these sources assure: "Not even in moments of greatest tension have we clashed with any group." Therefore, they admit that the Trenc episode "does not fit into this line".
In recent weeks, the Government has made a communication effort to address the protests over the modification of the Trenc regulation, which has been made from the Omnibus Law. Environmental organizations and left-wing parties have denounced that this reduction in regulation could lead to the deprotection of this natural park. As explained by ARA Balears, the Government has received pressure from those affected by the protection strip of Les Covetes, who already went to court when the Pact approved the expansion of the Natural Park's scope in 2023.expansion of the Natural Park's scope in 2023.
Despite this, the Executive has denied having any intention of leaving the area unprotected. "If the demonstration is convened with the slogan 'El Trenc is not to be touched,' I will join it. El Trenc is not to be touched": in these terms the president expressed herself in an interview published last Saturday in ARA Balears. In parallel, the Minister of Agriculture, Joan Simonet, published a video on social networks in which, with his feet in the water at El Trenc, he defended himself against the accusations of leaving El Trenc unprotected.
